Varicose Vein Treatment

What Treatments Do We Offer for Varicose Veins?

We offer a range of treatments that can relieve your pain and improve the appearance of the affected areas. Options include:

Vein Sclerotherapy

Vein Sclerotherapy involves injecting a substance called Fibrovein directly into the affected vein. Fibrovein causes the walls of the vein to stick together, preventing blood flow. This technique is effective for treating small broken veins or thread veins, as well as smaller varicose veins, and is considerably more effective than laser techniques for cosmetic purposes.

Foam Sclerotherapy

Foam Sclerotherapy is a newer injection technique that works well for larger veins. A special foam, usually guided by ultrasound, is injected straight into the vein. As soon as the foam is injected, it causes an inflammation of the vein walls and pushes out the blood that has collected there. The veins will eventually close and disappear, although this may occur gradually over several months.

Other Treatments

For larger varicose veins, we recommend Radiofrequency Ablation (VNUS), although not all patients are suitable for this treatment. During this procedure, your Consultant Vascular Surgeon will insert a small catheter into the diseased vein. This catheter delivers heat using radiofrequency energy, which causes the vein to shrink and then close. Surgical excision and stripping are often possible for those unable to undergo the treatments mentioned above.
